Marianne Starck for Michael Andersen & Søn Denmark Large Mirror with Ceramic Frame Handpainted Decor Persia Glaze Danish Mid-century
This is a very special and decorative mirror.
It would look so great in a bathroom or hall or also beautiful as a tray.
It can be hund horizontally and vertically.
It´s by artist Marianne Starck and made for the Danish pottery Michael Andersen & Søn (MA&S) which was situated on the island of Bornholm ca 1960s.
The frame is made of ceramic and the decor is handpainted. The colors are cobalt blue, grey and red lustre.
The decoration has reminescents of islamic art.
The glaze is in Persia technique, a special craquelee technique developed at the Michael Andersen & Sons pottery by Daniel Andersen in the 1930s.
They won a gold medal for this at the World´s Fair in Brussel in 1935.
Marked on the bottom with the original Michael Andersen & Søn backstamp a shield with three fishes, Denmark and MS for Marianne Starck.
Very good used condition.
No chips, cracks or repairs.

Marianne Starck (1938-2007) was the artistic leader at Michael Andersen pottery for decades. She was a graphic artist and came from Northern Germany to the pottery in the 1950s and stayed there until it closed in 1993. She made a lot of great designs through the years always renewing her artistic language. A very talented and versatile artist.
