This piece is just so fantastic! And it´s absolutely rare, too!

Huge oblong dish from the famous Danish pottery Michael Andersen & Son (MA&S).
It shows a lot of handpainted faces with a serious expression and the most beautiful colors in the glaze.

It´s a also possible to hang it on the wall, but be careful when doing this.

The dish is made in Persia technique, a special craquelee technique developed at Michael Andersen pottery in the 1930s.

Unfortunately we do not know the designer of this piece. Many attribute the style to Marianne Starck. But we doubt it´s by her. We tend more to Gerd Hiort Petersen (maiden name: Gerd Elsebeth Munck) who was apprentrice at the pottery in the 1950s.

On verso marked with the Michael Andersen & Son hallmark - a shield with three fishes, which also is the coat of arms for the town Rønne on the island Bornholm where the pottery was situated. Beside this it shows model no. 5661-II

Very good used condition
Just a fleabite at one outer corner and one small irregularity in glaze.
Otherwise no chips, cracks or repairs

Gerd Hiort Petersen (1937-) was born on the island Bornholm and was the first female potter apprentice on Bornholm when she came to Michael Andersen & Son pottery in 1954. She studied a couple of years at Akademie für angewandte Kunst in Vienna, Austria and also a couple of years at the Danish School of Arts & Crafts in Copenhagen. Beside working for Royal Copenhagen she also worked for the Bornholm based pottery Søholm. From 1973 she ran her own ceramic studio together with her husband Hans Munck Andersen on Bornholm.
